A family splinters under the pressures of an unknown future. Major changes are sweeping through Germany. The outlook for many is bleak. The members of a family, whose upper class status is being lessened by the changing times, each must confront the uncertainty engulfing the world. Laura Kuper must choose between her desire to have children and Hans, the love of her life. Her sister Celia, a conscientious university student, plunges into the abyss of a newly emerging terrorist movement fuelled in part by her unrequited love for Konstantin. Military duty for Philip, the youngest sibling, will see him pulled into a hopeless war for the few remaining oilfields in Asia. An epic modern journey, The Days to Come is an extraordinary requiem for the institution of family pitted against the greatest social upheavals of this or any time.
