I was immensely moved by "Red Dog", and I can't picture a movie-goer who won't be. It's wonderful.
- CJ Johnson, ABC Radio (Australia), August 11, 2011
Rough-hewn as it is, it's emotionally satisfying.
- Julie Rigg, MovieTime, ABC Radio National, August 05, 2011
An instant Aussie classic, Red Dog holds up extremely well on a second viewing and should not be missed by anyone who cares about just how good Australian films can be.
- Jim Schembri, The Age (Australia), August 04, 2011
This superb all-ages picture gets everything right: from the all-important combo of casting and scripting, right through to its unfailing ability to please a crowd every which way.
- Leigh Paatsch, Herald Sun (Australia), August 04, 2011
This is the most widely appealing Australian film since Bran Nue Dae, complete with a lovely Bill Hunter cameo, and hopefully Koko gets a chance to work here again before he's whisked off the luxury kennels of Hollywood.
- Craig Mathieson, sbs.com.au, August 04, 2011
The screenplay by Daniel Taplitz lays on the nostalgic populism with a trowel. A big speech celebrating Red Dog as an emblem of Dampier's pioneering spirit feels out of keeping with the laconic Aussie idiom.
- Jake Wilson, The Age (Australia), August 03, 2011
The dog itself, played by a woofer named Koko, is a great central character, and the humans are good value, too.
- David Stratton, At the Movies (Australia), August 03, 2011
These days, when the market in family films is so thoroughly dominated by the wonders of CGI, it comes as a cheering surprise to find one that makes such beguiling work out of an idea that goes all the way back to the adventures of Lassie and Rin Tin Tin.
- Sandra Hall, Sydney Morning Herald, August 03, 2011
Red Dog is moving, uplifting and very funny. It has the potential to be a homegrown hit. And if it isn't, then there's something seriously amiss. It's the all-encompassing journey that movie trailers always promise to take you on.
- Annette Basile, FILMINK (Australia), August 01, 2011
Red Dog has all the ingredients of a durable outback yarn with iconic Australian characters and elements - except for the glue to hold it all together
- Andrew L. Urban, Urban Cinefile, July 31, 2011
Red Dog is a real charmer. A quirky and endearing tale about man's best friend, Kriv Stenders' latest film is funny, moving and uniquely Australian
- Louise Keller, Urban Cinefile, July 31, 2011
- , Empire Magazine, February 24, 2012
Well, it's a doggy story for humans, anyway: an avowedly true-life tale that comes across like a well-meaning PG-certification of the real world.
- Peter Bradshaw, Guardian [UK], February 23, 2012
It's not quite as blatant a tearjerker as some of its pooch-based predecessors, and frankly, it's all the better for it.
- Derek Adams, Time Out, February 21, 2012
A heartwarming tale about man's best friend.
- Helen OHara, Empire Magazine, February 20, 2012
Heart's in the right place, but very broad and quite irritating too.
- Ashley Clark, Little White Lies, February 24, 2012
