An Alfred Hitchcock film has been named as the best film ever made.

Vertigo is a film about a private eye with a crippling fear of heights or what's known as vertigo.

He is hired to track a man's wife.

The poll by the British film institute's sight and sound magazine has consistently named Orson Welles's Citizen Kane but for the first time, Welles's has been removed from the mantel to make way for Hitchcock's psychological thriller.
