The stars of new movie 'Total Recall' hit the red carpet on Wednesday night in Hollywood for the premier of the sci-fi action thriller.

Actors Collin Farrell, Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale dressed to the nines to greet a slew of fans along LA's famous Hollywood Boulevard.

The film is a remake of the original 1990 blockbuster of the same name, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharron Stone.

But Farrell told Reuters the film has its own identity.

'The name of the film, the characters name, a lot of the plot points are the same, some of the lines are lifted from the original,' said Farrell.

'The third act is completely different and the tone of the film is completely different. But, hopefully it justifies its existence and the two hours of entertainment that we made it to be.'

The story follows a frustrated factory worker (Farrell) who turns to a company which promises to make your dreams come true. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, the line between fantasy and reality becomes blurred.

'Total Recall' is set for release in Australia on August 23.
