Twilight star Taylor Lautner is heading to Australia this month to promote his new movie Abduction.

Lautner will mingle with fans on the red carpet in Melbourne on August 21 and Sydney on August 23.

He's also set to attend private screenings with a few lucky competition winners.

Lautner's fame skyrocketed when he was cast as Jacob the werewolf in the film adaptations of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight vampire series.

In action-thriller Abduction, Lautner plays Nathan Harper, a teenager who discovers an image of himself on a missing persons website and realises his life is a complete lie.

As he races to solve the mystery of his biological father, Harper is unwittingly thrown into a world of espionage and chased by assassins and federal operatives.

Directed by John Singleton, it also stars Jason Isaacs, Maria Bello, Denzel Whitaker, Sigourney Weaver and Lily Collins.

Abduction is released nationally on September 22.
